Method

How lessons are taught.

Taught in Arabic, from the first lesson.

In the Arabic centres of Cairo, students who start with little or no Arabic are taught entirely in it. We follow the same method:

  • Each lesson's new words are taught first, then used straight away, many times.
  • The teacher explains using only words you have already learnt.
  • You speak Arabic out loud from the first lesson, as Abu Hanifah teaches.

If you don't understand a sentence, press its English button to see the translation.

Every lesson runs in the same four steps.

  1. 1

    The words

You hear and say the lesson's new words before the lesson uses them.

  2. 2

    The explanation

The teacher explains the new point, a little at a time.

  3. 3

    Practice

Exercises on what was just explained. You hear each sentence before you read it.

  4. 4

    Your own sentences

You make your own sentences, out loud and in writing.

Daily review

10–15 minutes a day going back over words and sentences from your lessons, so you don't forget them.

The texts

Level 0 reads al-Fatiha and the prayer word by word. From Level 1, each rule is applied to an ayah, a hadith and a line from the scholars.
